For a long time Shangó had known no stability in his life, so he decided to visit Oyá, who lived confused among the spirits. When Shangó arrived, he began to sing a prayer and the spirits fled. At that moment Oyá felt cleansed, and Shangó gave an offering to Oggún and left. Oyá fell in love with Shangó and became pregnant by him, bearing a son whom they named Omi Lala.
Oyá would always ask Shangó whether he was going to bless their son and teach him all his secrets. When Omi Lala was born, Shangó bathed him with cedar leaves and blessed him. Olofin, however, warned him to keep an eye on the child’s mother. Shangó went on teaching and blessing his son, but one day he had to leave the house, and Oyá took advantage of his absence to steal Shangó’s secrets.
When Shangó returned, he realized what had happened, and his son fell ill. Shangó performed a prayer and the boy was healed. This brought about the separation between Shangó and Oyá.

Olofin decided to help him and summoned him along with all the other Saints and Orishas to hold a ceremony in honor of Olodumare. There were many present at the place of the ceremony when it began to rain torrentially. As there was no food, the Saints and Orishas began to suffer hunger and cold, and they wished to return to their homes, so they begged Olofin to make the rain stop. Olofin told them that for the rain to cease, every one of them had to cast an alms into the urn and pray to Olodumare.
When the urn was filled with money, the rain ceased and each Saint and Orisha returned home. When Olofin was left alone with Orunmila, he took the urn full of money and handed it to him so that he could live, and said to him: «Do not squander it doing so many favors».
